The release of all three of Prince’s movies to Blu-ray marked the first official issue of material following his death on 21 April 2016. The Prince Movie Collection is a box-set which rereleases Prince’s three feature films, packaged together: Purple Rain, Under The Cherry Moon and Graffiti Bridge.

This was the first occasion Prince’s last two movies were released in Blu-ray format. The Prince Movie Collection was released by Warner Brothers on 17 October 2016 and was retailed at $24.98. For the UK release, each movie came cased in purple plastic instead of the blue sleeve typical for Blu-rays. The actual content of each disc was no different from earlier DVD releases.

Following the tremendous success of Purple Rain, Prince was afforded too much free rein with his subsequent two movies. The awards they won are perhaps some of the most ranging in cinema history. While Purple Rain won Prince the Oscar for best Original Score in 1985 and smashed all box-office expectations, profiting by ten-fold on its budget, Under The Cherry Moon garnered him a duo of Golden Raspberry’s for Worst Director and Worst Actor in 1987. This anti-accolade was repeated by Graffiti Bridge, likewise nominated for a Golden Raspberry in 1991, losing out to Kevin Costner for Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves.
