Prince songs on compilation albums
Here the Databank explores the songs written or recorded by Prince specifically, or got their original release, for compilation albums and soundtracks tied to other projects than his own. The songs were subsequently available in other releases, this page thereby documents the original publication. Following his separation from Warner Bros Records in 1993, Prince took to other mediums to distribute his music. One of those mediums was movie soundtracks on which feature prominently in his compilations catalogue.
The notable releases are Good Love which was for many years the only track to receive an official released from Prince’s shelved Camille album of 1986. Good Love was Prince’s to get its official release on a compilation – the movie Bright Lights, Big City, he re-released it in 1998 on Crystal Ball. Controversally absent from the We Are The World single, the parent album releases Prince’s specially written contribution for the LiveAid campaign of 1985, 4 The Tears In Your Eyes – it too was later re-released, in 1993, in Prince’s first greatest hits package The Hits/The B-Sides. In all, five tracks received their official debut on movie soundtracks.
