Lovesexy Live comprises of two VHS volumes of concert footage of the Lovesexy Tour that was performed in Dortmund, Germany on 9 September 1988 – the last show Prince performed for the European leg of the tour. Firstly televised, the footage was subsequently released to home video over two tapes; Lovesexy Live 1 comprises the last half of the concert, while Lovesexy Live 2 forms the show’s opening half.

The portion of the show containing bulk of Prince’s hits therefore appear on volume one. This division into two releases mirrors the format of the actual concerts, which was also split into two acts by an intermission, to highlight the contrast between the light and shade theme of the two acts. Lovesexy Live was filmed by Dutch company ID-TV using no less then 32 cameras.
