There’s a quiet storm, and it never felt like this before.
S.S.T. is a single with two songs specially written and performed by Prince for the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. The song was first made available for download from npgmusicclub.com on 3 September 2005. The CD followed on 25 October that year.
S.S.T. stands for Sade’s Sweetest Taboo, the hit 1985 song from her album Promise. Because it was the song played by many news stations in the aftermath of the disaster. Hurricane Katrina remains the seventh most powerful cyclone ever recorded and claimed the lives of at least 1,833 people. The Category 5 storm formed over the Bahamas on 23 August 2005 and stuck Louisiana on the 29th, flooding 80% of New Orleans, causing $125 billion of damage. The proceeds from the release were donated to the disaster relief fund – it is unknown how much money Prince’s involvement raised.
