Prince’s last albums receive 10th anniversary reissue

The final albums issued during Prince’s lifetime were HITNRUN Phase One in September 2015, followed on 12 December by HITNRUN Phase Two. Both debuted on TIDAL, with the latter receiving its physical release on 21 January 2016 shortly before the star’s tragic death on 21 April that year.

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of these albums, they are being reissued by The Prince Estate on 30 January 2026 which will also be the first time either has been offered on vinyl format: HITNRUN Phase One will be available as a single LP and HITNRUN Phase Two as a double LP. Both also receive a CD reissue on the same day.

Fault lines between fans and The Estate deepened throughout 2025 for its seeming resistance to publish music held in Prince’s vault, opting instead for reissues of previously available music. The criticism came to a head with Around The World In A Day Deluxe Edition in November 2025 that reissued the original album and its commercial singles but controversially, unlike other Deluxe Editions, the package contained no previously unavailable material despite The Estate having proclaimed the Vault was ‘#Free’ in their tweet posted on 5 June 2025 following resolution of a long-running dispute with Netflix.

The January 2026 reissues hold significance in that HITNRUN Phase One was Prince’s penultimate studio album. It shared a rare co-production credit with Joshua Welton as it was aimed to update Prince’s sound and reach out to a new generation of listeners. Its follow-up companion HITNRUN Phase Two was a more conventional Prince album but would be his last. Both debuted on the streaming service TIDAL in 2015, however their delayed physical releases impeded chart potential as neither made impact in the US chart, peaking at numbers 48 and 40 respectively. Whereas the reissues shines the light on Prince’s late career discography which is seen to hold less commercial value, The Estate’s decision to omit vault tracks from Around The World In A Day Deluxe found what should have been a highly anticipated release reach only 176 in the US.

The tenth anniversary reissues, first confirmed at Prince Celebration in June 2025, brings the second release in the schedule outlined by the Estate in a special discussion panel session at the event to respond to increasing frustrations within the fanbase. Next up will be Parade Super Deluxe Edition due sometime during the album’s fortieth anniversary in 2026. The Prince Estate hosts Celebration 2026 on 3-7 June.
