Prince presented the first award of the night for the 2015 American Music Awards, at the ceremony held at the Microsoft Theatre, Los Angeles, on Sunday 22 November. Bedecked with Vox guitar, strapped over his shoulder in true rock n’ roll fashion, and his trademark third-eye sunglasses, Prince dazzled in a shimmering gold outfit and upstaged the opening act J-Lo.
Prince made neither a speech nor performed (his guitar’s role this evening was to serve only as an accessory), but presented the award for Best R&B Album, which he handed to The Weekend for Beauty Behind The Madness. Upon accepting his award the stunned recipient turned to Prince and then to the crowd to ask them to “make some noise for Prince”.
