Celebration discussion panel outlines Estate’s future plans

As Celebration 2026 draws to a close, this is also the time of year for the curious observers who didn’t get to Paisley Park to scour attendee to glean even a glimmer of news of a firmed-up release schedule from Prince Estate for this year and beyond. The eagerly anticipated panel discussion panel entitled ‘ten-year plan’ took place behind closed doors exclusively for VIP ticket holders at the annual fan gathering. In this key year that marks the tenth anniversary of Prince’s passing there’s been plenty of speculation, with hopes of a Parade Super Deluxe release in this fortieth year since the original album’s release. Considering the potential for the discussion to get tetchy the session was conducted under strict conditions: phones banned, and no photos or recordings permitted.

It offered candid insight to the abandoned Diamonds And Love Super Deluxe, a package prepared by and inherited from the Estate’s previous management. Estate reps explained Diamonds And Pearls and Love Symbol albums warranted distinct releases, given how Prince originally presented them. This gave fans the excellent Diamonds And Pearls Super Deluxe, but below par audio quality was the excuse for delays to that release which eventually came in October 2024. The Estate have become more open in its communication over previous years of silence. The lack of releases in recent years has become troublesome for purple HQ considering as fans have a comparison, which when run by Estate 1.0, a plethora for releases were issued in high quality, well presented and were thoughtful. Estate 2.0, which took over the operation in July 2022 when Prince’s probate was settled, in 2024 issued a measly a Purple Rain reissue – on splatter vinyl – in what was then Prince’s biggest year of greatest commercial potential. This naturally raised frustration towards the Estate, and fast forward to Celebration 2025, the Vault & Future Plans discussion panel was set up to serve as a town hall Q&A to smooth communication with the fanbase. The panel continued in 2026 amid growing concern momentum appeared to be faltering.

Addressing the contentious pulling of Love Symbol. The Estate’s rationale, as has now come to light, was the preference to give each album its own light with separate releases, with Love Symbol to receive its own Super Deluxe treatment down the road. Despite going to press in 2022 and copies leaking out of the warehouse and onto eBay and after an unexplained period of silence led to an unofficial dump of the raw tracks surfacing online last year, the session offered no clarity whether the album is to be resurrected. The Estate explain that to revisit an album requires participation from the musicians involved in the original’s creation. It is worth noting that those same bandmates – New Power Generation – perform also on Diamonds And Pearls so whether that distinction truly accounts for the delay of Love Symbol remains in question. This may explain why spin-off projects failed to surface despite such releases being mentioned in a previous interview.

There was also hint of a 3121 set on the horizon and may explain the restored footage screened at the start of Celebration 2026 from a show filmed in 2007 during Prince’s residency at Club 3121 at the Rio, Las Vegas. The much touted Parade reissue was also confirmed as still in development yet no details were offered on the scale of the set or timing of release, since wording in a tweet posted by the Estate inferred the set was pared down from a full Super Deluxe to a regular Expanded Edition along the lines of Around The World In A Day as released last November. Controversially comprising just the main album and supporting singles and their B-sides, Around The World In A Day peaked at 176 in the US. Given the announcement of Timeless, which is due in August, Parade in whatever form it will be issued shall likely follow an identical schedule and drop in or around November 2026.

Looking further ahead, the discussion touched on the tantalising ‘ten-year plan’ – which turned out to be on the future of the Paisley Park estate. The ten-year plan broadly consisted of a mooted completion of The Egg, an outbuilding Prince began in the late 90s but never finished. The session again dwelt on the complexities of managing Prince’s vault, and that as far a schedule goes there’s little evidence of a discernable release plan. Timeless – the Estate’s headline announcement for the event’s second day (presumably done to fend off criticism) – was implied as a bridging release while larger packages take form. Online, there was doubt among the community whether Timeless, comprising a track listing of just ten songs and spanning the breadth of Prince’s career, offers sufficient insight into the quality and quantity of the icon’s unreleased catalogue to meet the Estate’s objectives to introduce a new generation of listeners to his music. Its focus maybe to strike similar deals owing to the success of its licensing of Purple Rain for the season closer of Stranger Things in 2025, resulting in the LPs historic reentry in the Billboard chart for a fourth consecutive decade.
