77 Beverly Park Lane Home Studio
Between October 2004 and May 2009, Prince had largely shuttered his Minneapolis home and studios Paisley Park whilst decamped on the Californian coast renting a series of properties around Beverly Hills. In February 2008, he started renting the sprawling 27,000sq ft property at 77 Beverly Park Lane, North Beverly Park.
I’m your Willy Wonka, golden ticket is yours
This two-storey Italianate mansion was built in 2007 in the style of a Tuscan Villa, residing within an exclusive gated enclave guaranteeing its occupants maximum seclusion. 77 Beverly Park Lane sits within its own 2.1-acre plot surrounded by lawns, featuring a sand volleyball court, herb garden and a parking lot able to accommodate as many as 40 cars. The property itself boasts nine bedrooms (two of which for live-in staff), fourteen bathrooms, two-storey height lounge, library, movie theatre and even a basement bowling alley. For food, Prince took to ordering room service from the nearby Beverly Hills Hotel, who happily obliged.
Prince occupied 77 Beverly Park Lane for a little over a year, renting the property for a purported sum of $200,000 per month. He set up a home studio and in it laid down tracks for the album MPLSound. Indeed, Prince was so taken with the property, he named a song after it 77 Beverly Park (albeit omitting ‘Lane’) which features in his thirty-third album LotusFlow3r, released in March 2009. Prince vacated the property in May 2009.
Although Prince rented in property in LA frequently throughout his life, in 1992 he owned a five bedroom, seven bathroom Italian style home at 1863 Heather Way, Beverly Hills. It was built in 1989 and boasted 7,104 sq feet of living space. He sold it in 1997 for $2.2 million.
Prince hosted parties at 77 Beverly Park Lane, playing a total of nine invitation only concerts attended by an array of A-list celebrities. Prince lived at 77 Beverly Park Lane at the time he played the Coachella Festival, from which he travelled to headline the 26 April 2008 event, by private jet. The property was subsequently put on the market and after a time sold for $22.6 million in January 2010.
