So there it is. Just you, me and the camera.

Diamonds And Pearls Video Collection is the promotional videos collection of Prince and the New Power Generation’s first album Diamonds And Pearls. It therefore contains interviews with NPG band members – which Prince filmed himself. Diamonds And Pearls Video Collection also includes concert footage of four songs performed during the Diamonds And Pearls Tour, captured at Earls Court Arena in London in June 1992 and during the Australia leg of April and May 1992.

Diamonds And Pearls Video Collection was released on VHS home video on 6 October 1991, when it peaked on Billboard’s Top Video Sales chart at number 22. It was reissued in DVD format on 25 September 2006. The cover artwork of the video collection is designed by Tom Recchion and Laurie Griffin. The video for Willing And Able is footage of a live version of the track performed in Studio C at Paisley Park, it features the full band NPG and The Steeles on backing vocals filmed in the same sessions as Money Don’t Matter 2 Night and the live sequences for Call The Law, 26 January 1992 by director Sotera Tschetter.

Two versions of the video Money Don’t Matter 2 Nite were filmed; the initial version was directed by Spike Lee but contained no footage of Prince and was considered too political to air on MTV, so additional scenes were interspersed with Prince’s performance of the song in Studio C under the direction of Tschetter. The versions were edited to form one video. Both versions aired back-to-back on MTV on 14 April 1992.

Three lavish promos were filmed for the album’s main singles. The first was for the album’s lead single Gett Off, Prince most lavish production to date, was shot at Paisley Park Studios in the summer of 1991 and was issued under its own release as a video maxi-single. Its director Randee St. Nicholas appears in the video Insatiable, which she also directs, cameos as the photographer. The video for the title track Diamonds And Pearls was next and was shot at City Hall in LA on 31 August 1991, the day Prince originally planned to perform his concert at Blenheim Palace in the UK but had been cancelled owing to a debacle with the promoter. Cream followed one week later, filmed at Los Angeles grand Union Station.
